Candlemas of the Imbolc of Brigid
31st of January-2nd of February 8 pm
For centuries, Candlemas (February 2) continues to be a time of purification for the Virgin Mary after giving birth to Jesus. Her purification required her to make an animal sacrifice and to offer up her son for circumcision.
Both these rituals have no place in my heart.
Imbolc ('in the belly of the mother') is the Pagan Fire Festival that marks the hidden entrance to Spring on February 1.
Also, February 1 is St Brigid's Day, a day that celebrates women's creativity and has long symbolised hope, renewal, and the feminine.
That tells me - these three things are connected.
Feminine. Birth. Light.
Join us for three days of purification as we put out our offerings for Saint Brigid, celebrate the conception of fire and realize the Light into the World by first seeing precisely what it illuminates. This is a transformative journey you won't want to miss.
