Wild is the Wind

Wild is the Wind

I have this hunch that as we progress further along this perilous path of transformation from one kind of woman to another, we are becoming more in tune, if not, entirely one with the weather.

I, for one, am affected profoundly by the waves and changes within the climate. Thankfully, I have a lifestyle that allows for many movements of exceptional creativity, and sometimes the lows that come with overhanging clouds and the build-up towards a storm.
I have been noticing this for years, and now am in a place where I can allow these climatic moods to pass through me. Also, these climate currents pertain to carry within them, a taste and glimpse of the collective consciousness not only of humanity but all life. Is it because within these winds and waters are the seeds, tears, fur, feathers and scales of natural life? Does weather cross-pollinate the stories of every species? Can we hear one another on the wind, taste one another in the water, can we be warmed by others through the sun, and cooled by the icy fingers of frost? Are the invisible currents using this channel to correspond with humankind? For me, this is an all-resounding - yes!
Are us women, remembering our intrinsic symbiosis with nature, does the weather become the implement of communication? Or are we still too busy to notice?
The breaking down of our current climate is imploring us to pay attention. Nature and her elements are reorganising and recalibrating her landmasses - will we allow ourselves to migrate, or hold on to our homes, knowing they are not safe.
We often see witches using spells to manipulate the weather, but that does not interest me. Now is not the time for assuming any kind of control, but relinquishing it. I prefer instead to be touched by the weather. To listen and harmonise with its expression, to hear the stories carried within, to take its hand and be lead to where it wants to take me.
And this piece of writing was one such place.
If this kind of talk interests you, I am doing a Live and Recorded talk on Thursday on the Systematic Disempowerment of Women's Bodies (and of course, the how not to let that happen!)

  • I find this article fascinating. I live in the Isle of Skye where we have a self catering accommodation above our house. The weather here is very changeable and the experience of being in the Wind is my favourite. I just love it! And do think the climate changes are telling us about our vulnerability and our strength.
